Tune Ups

The term engine "tune-up" has changed considerably with today’s advanced computer controlled engine management systems. The basics of how a gasoline engine works has not. Clean gas and air needs to be driven to the vehicle's cylinders where combustion initiated by a spark plug creates the power necessary for your vehicle. There are multiple items that affect the performance of today’s engines, including the fuel injectors, air and fuel filters, spark plugs and computerized engine sensors. All of these items must be functioning properly to maximize the  performance or your engine and maintain gas mileage. That's why we examine all the key components related to performance of your engine and follow manufacturer’s mileage recommendations for maintenance to keep your engine working at maximum efficiency.

It may be time for a "tune-up" if you notice one or more of the conditions below when starting or driving your vehicle:

  • a decrease in gas mileage
  • a noticeable loss in power
  • your engine running "rough" or stalling when at a stop
  • engine "knocking" when accelerating or running-on after the ignition is turned off
  • your "Check Engine" or "Service Engine" light remaining on after initial start

To learn about your vehicle’s maintenance requirements contact the nearest Purcell Tire & Auto Service Center to provide you with specific information related to your vehicle.
