Routine Maintenance

If you're looking to save money because you're worried about a potential recession, then consider taking care of your car until you're financially comfortable in purchasing a brand new one. Routine car maintenance can be simple. Below are the top three tips you should know in maintaining your car. Purcell Tire is capable of helping you maintain your automobile.

1. Rotate your tires and check the tire pressures.  Making certain that your tires are properly inflated will help in many ways – on gas mileage and on wear-and-tear of the automobile. If tires are not properly inflated, the engine works harder and, if the tires are over inflated, the threads wear out unevenly.  As well, make certain your tires get rotated periodically.  They will last longer that way because the wear-and-tear will be more evenly distributed over time.

2. Change your oil and oil filter. Engine oil needs to be changed regularly. Without the right amount of clean engine oil, your engine will breakdown quickly. This will require either a new engine or an entirely new car.

3. Inspect your brakes, hoses, belts and wiper blades.  Brakes wear down over time – if you’re not paying attention and they get to a point where they’re about to wear out completely, they can cause other major damage to more expensive parts of the braking system.  Hoses and belts can be checked with a simple glance over the engine.  If any are showing signs of wear, have them replaced. Wiper blade inspection is important for safety in heavy rain.  As well, if a wiper blade comes lose in high wind, it could scratch your windshield.
