Purcell uses different curing methods depending on the tire and the tread pattern needed. Tires with pre-cured tread rubber are placed into an autoclave and vulcanized using time, temperature and pressure to bond the tread to the casing. Tires with green rubber tread are placed into a mold which exerts the pressure and heat to force the un-cured rubber into the mold’s tread pattern and cure the green rubber. The green rubber is changed from its original state (soft, tacky, stretchy) into a tough and hard rubber state. This mold cure process creates a denser tread and greater bond resulting in better performance than any other method.
